Beaches in Kannur

The city of Kannur lies between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. Apart from being a cultural city Kannur enjoys the wealth of natural beauty. With the Lakshadweep Sea in the west the city is home to many sandy beaches entwined with rows of green coconut palms. Some of the main beaches that you can visit on your tour to Kannur are Muzhappilangad, Payyambalam, Meenkunnu and Mopila Bay. These virgin beaches of Kannur are a favorite haunt of the tourists.

Meenkunnu Beach

This beach is situated at Azhikode, which is hardly a few kilometers away from the town. The Meenkunnu Beach is a tourist’s paradise with golden sand & surf.

Payyambalam Beach

The main attractions of this beach are the well laid out gardens and the massive landscaped sculpture of mother & child erected by noted sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman.

Mopila Bay

The Mopila Bay is situated near the St.Angelos Fort. Centuries ago, it was the seat of Kolathiri Kings. The Kadalayi Fort and Sree Krishna Temple were quite famous. The remnants of the fort and the temple are still seen in Mopila Bay. The main attraction of the bay is a fishing harbor, built with Indo Norvegian project assistance.

Muzhappilangad Beach

This beach is situated at a distance of about 15kms south of Kannur and only 8 kms from Thalassery. This long clean beach offers you with an enchanting ambience and offers you facilities to swim, sunbathe or just relax.
